Van Anda, Texada Island, BC, Canada
Texada Heritage Society
..............................................................................................
Originally two
separate town sites, Van Anda and Texada City. Geographically they
were almost one, growth and economics finally resolved the issue and
the two were joined as Van Anda, named after Van Anda Blewett, son
of Ed Blewett, President of Van Anda Copper & Gold Co. Thus, by the
year 1900 what had been a prospector's camp was now blossoming forth
into a robust and lively community which in the next fifteen years would
boast three hotels with saloons, an opera house, hospital, variety of
stores and businesses, a local newspaper and a jail. Fire has
destroyed Van Anda’s business district 4 times to date, the first in
1910.
