In the 1890s Texada Island became known as “Canada’s most precious rock” and the Northern end of the Island as “The richest 25 square miles in British Columbia” 

At the peak of mining activity on Texada Island numerous mines were in operation and other prospects were being developed, names such as “The Golden Bug”, “The Golden Slipper”, “Copper King”, “Surprise”, “Sentinel”, “Margery”, “Rose”, “Belle”, “Paris”, “The Butterfly”,” Red Cloud” and “Comet”.

Important dates in Texada Islands Mining History:

1871 -  Iron ore discovered at Welcome Bay.

1880 - Gold was discovered in Van Anda.

1880 - 1919 Little Billie Mine produces gold and copper.
        
1883 - 1908 Puget Sound Iron Co. began shipping iron ore to Irondale, Wash.

1890 -  Copper was found.

1895 - 1919 The Copper Queen Mine is in operation.

1898 - 1919 The Marble Bay and Cornell Mines are in operation.

1948 - 1952 Little Billie Mine reopens.

1952 - 1977 Texada Iron Mines produces Iron, Copper, Silver and Gold.
